A rescue team of Swiss Mountain Rescue Station Air Zermatt is on it’s way to Nepal to try to help Slovenian mountaineer Tomaz Humar. Humar is injured and stranded at about 6300 meters on Langtang Lirung’s north face since earlier this week.
On Monday november 9th, Tomaz phoned with a climbing partner in Slovenia. He said that he was injured, but without further details. This was his first and last call from the mountain. He is thought to be at an altitude of around 6300 meter, in the south face of Langtang Lirung, a 7227meter peak in the Langtang mountain chain of the Nepalese Himalayas. His colleage in Slovenia called Air Zermatt, and asked for an intervention of the highly skilled helicopter mountain rescuers.
The Swiss team exists of Robert Andenmatten (rescue pilot Air Zermatt), Bruno Jelk (chief of the Zermatt mountain rescue station) and Simon Anthamatten (world famous alpinist and mountain rescue specialist). Air Zermatts chief pilot Gerold Biner is coordinating the rescue in Zermatt: “Our team left Switzerland this morning and is hoping to arrive in Kathmandu tomorrow.”

Poeh, dan zal men op z’n allervroegst 4 dagen na zijn laatste telefoontje iets kunnen doen. Is acclimatisatie geen probleem? Zijn er geschikte helikopters voor op 6300 meter aanwezig? Zijn er geschikte (lange) kabels? Weet men waar hij zit? Er kunnen natuurlijk makkelijk 1 of meer dagen bij komen.
Deze hulp is letterlijk vergezocht en extra kostbaar.
Op zich alle succes toegewenst natuurlijk.

Ha Menno,
Wat een reddingsactie zeg. Wel heel mooi dat air Zermatt zoiets kan en wil doen! Weten ze iets over de gezondheidstoestand waarin Tomaz nu verkeerd? Meerdere dagen vastzitten op die hoogte is wel heel lang. Aan de andre kant heeft hij al een keer laten zien dat hij een erg lange adem heeft; hij is toch al eens eerder in grote problemen geweest in de Himalaya, of was dat niet Tomaz Humar?
Ik hoop dat air Zermatt iets kan betekenen voor hem!

We just had Ang Tsering and Bruno Jelk on the phone. Our team has arrived in Kathmandu and had the first meeting. They have all their gear and personal equipment collected and are on the way to meet the secretary of the Swiss Embassy and the pilot of the Nepali helicopter for further negotiation. As Ang Tsering could tell the weather is not clear at the accident site for the moment but for tomorrow they announced good weather.
Let’s hope for the best I will keep you informed!

The team of Swiss Mountain Rescue Station Air Zermatt is still in Kathmandu. This afternoon they had a meeting with the Nepalese authorities and the aggreement is that they will fly with 2 helicopters to basecamp, starting at Saturday 14.11.2009 at 5.00 hour local time. The weather is supposed to be good for starting a first helicopter rescue mission directly after arrival in basecamp. The plan is to fly a mountain rescuer with a 50 meter longline to the location on the mountain where Tomaz Humar is supposed to be.
